"Mr. Garrison'southward Fancy New Vagina" is the season nine premiere of Southward Park. The episode first aired on March ix, 2005.
Plot
Garrison gets a sex change and his assurance are removed, while Kyle becomes black in order to play basketball.
Why It Isn't Fancy
- Most of the jokes either fall flat or are but patently stupid, such equally Garrison talking out loud virtually his/her new vagina after the operation, Kyle's "negroplasty", his father Gerald getting cosmetic surgery to get a dolphin because he "feels" similar i, and Garrison gleefully deciding to accept an abortion when due south/he mistakenly thinks southward/he is pregnant.
- The gym teacher is completely unlikable, every bit he does not let Kyle play basketball and discriminates confronting him for being Jewish, which leads Kyle to want to have corrective surgery to become alpine and blackness.
- There are some downright icky scenes, like the doctor cutting off Garrison's penis and footage of a real-life surgery being shown, Garrison using the women'southward restroom at the grocery shop, and Kyle's knees bursting open while playing basketball.
- The infamous alive-activity sex activity change is absolutely disturbing, even for an adult audience.
- Kyle's design looking like a black basketball histrion looks hideous and downright offensive; the same goes for Gerald every bit a dolphin.
- It is revealed that Garrison simply wanted to have a sex change because southward/he wanted to exist able to have a period, get significant, and take an abortion. When Garrison finds out none of this is possible since due south/he was not born equally a woman, s/he wants to go a human being again, meaning that Garrison was unrealistically uninformed about the kind of surgery s/he had.
- Animation fault: During the scene where Kyle discusses his surgery with his parents, the commencement shows a few seconds of a prune of him declining to play basketball with the other kids, even though that scene already ended.
- The doctor using Garrison'south testicles for Kyle's knees does not make much sense.
- It also feels like an insult to transgender, non-binary, transracial, and therian people, portraying them as shallow and superficial when there are almost all legitimate cases of people who don't like the appearances or identities they were born with.
- The episodes endeavor way also hard at inducing shock value and being controversial. That is shown through the inclusion of footage from a real sex change operation and making fun of transracial and otherkin people, fifty-fifty though the final latter isn't mainstream enough to be debated yet.
Redeeming Qualities
- It does depict a politically incorrect and painful truth nearly the limitations of sex reassignment surgery.
- Ike blurting out "Penis!" and "Vagina!" at the Broflovskis' dinner table is somewhat funny.
- Kyle is still a likable character in this episode.
Reception
The episode is considered by many to exist ane of the, if non the worst episode of the series, because of how off-putting it is.[2] [3]

- Co-ordinate to co-creators Trey Parker and Matt Rock, the original version of the episode contained more 5 minutes of the real-life sex reassignment surgery footage shown at the beginning as filler due to author's block, but in a rare positive example of executive meddling, Comedy Central had forced them to drastically reduce information technology to just a few quick shots.[one]
- Trey Parker claims to have come shut to giving up on Southward Park entirely due to how stressful making this episode was for him.[1]
- Trey Parker and Matt Rock themselves afterwards admitted beingness unhappy at how transphobic the episode came across equally.[commendation needed]
- The events of this episode were never mentioned again, aside from Garrison staying a female until eventually becoming male once again in Season 12's "Eek, a Penis!".
